Soccer

It has begun...we can see the life of living in the car going from practice to practice and game to game for the next 18 years...and it all started very innocently this September with a little thing called YMCA Kickstart Scoccer. No games, no competition, just a weekly practice to teach some of the fundamentals of soccer to a little heard of kittens...I mean 3 year olds...I'm just glad I wasn't in charge of herding them! Besides the all important dribbling, trapping, passing, throwing in, and scoring...Henry's favorite new skill...Red Light, Green Light!

Goal!

Fisher says wake him when it is his turn to play.

After Red Light, Green Light, Henry's second favorite soccer practice tradition...

TEAM!

(disclaimer: we do not endorse the wearing of Tennessee orange, much to Ed's chagrin it was the color left when we got there, and he did a very good job keeping any disparaging comments about Henry's 1st ever team uniform color to himself!)

Summer '09 Redux

or "What (else) we did on our summer vacation (that isn't already on here)"

This summer Fisher got big! He turned into a little walking talking boy. Gone is the little baby, we now have 2 big boys in the house.

We seem to do a lot of standing on tables. We're kind of thinking Fisher is going to build sky scrapers or fly on a trapeze because his feet rarely stay on the ground for long.

We do a lot of putting things on our heads around here. Lots of hats, helmets, and well...just other things, don't ask, it is just the way we roll in the Gibson household.

What is summertime without a sunroof...dude.

We like to make...

lots of...

funny...

funny...

faces.

What is summertime without rolling around in the green green grass...

and spending a lot of time outside...

and going on rides...

and grilling...

and toys...

and time on the playground.

We went to the Farmer's Market a lot...

and got some free lessons...

and bought lots of fruits and veggies...and special huge inflatable crayons obviously...that that one is "kentucky grown"...we do like to buy locally.

And we ended up in a very familiar spot after a big outing...and playing so much electric guitar.

Sometimes we had to stay inside...

and do the laundry...

and some cooking...

and Fisher loved to play with his cars...

We celebrated Poppy's birthday with all the cousins.

And we were very proud of our painting skills...

It was a very good summer.

Sleep

You know how your kids end up in your bed sometimes...

or all the time....

I just can't stop taking pictures of these kids sleeping...

especially when they are all snuggled together...

or in the car...

the entire back seat can't seem to keep their eyes open on a trip...

sometimes it is necessary to sleep with a couple stuffed animals...

or 20...

a good sleep for Fisher is one with his bottom high in the air...

and Henry mostly likes to sleep on his tummy...

However and where ever they sleep, there isn't anything quite as peaceful and sweet as a sleeping baby and I just can't get enough of these two...even when they're asleep.

Woodland Art Fair '09

A great Lexington August tradition is the Woodland Art Fair. Of course there is booth after booth of great photography, pottery, paintings, etc, but we really love the opportunities to make art. Henry made a great little decorated canvas, a magic wand, and a portrait (that was really really abstract) this year.

(Giving American Founder's Bank a little plug here, you'll see their sticker on the canvas. They are big participants every year and have great projects, canvas this year and a piggy bank last year).

Fisher is a huge supporter of the arts, but on this day he was much more interested in playing some peek-a-boo.

This is one of my new favorite pictures of Fisher. What a face!

Hat's Off Henry!

Hats off Kentucky was a great event at the Kentucky Horse Park. It was a free event to educate kids about the horse industry. There was a great turn out and we had lots of fun, and Henry taught them all a thing or two about horses I'm sure.

He seemed to really enjoy the horse veterinarian where he got to listen to a horse digesting grass and hear his heart beat...

AND....BEST OF ALL...
The Jockey School!! In Lexington we have the North American Racing Academy run by former Jockey and Hall of Famer Chris McCarron. We had been all over the park, made stick horses, seen World Equestrian Game exhibitions, learned about rescuing horses, even eaten frozen lemonade...but when Henry saw this all of his dreams came true!

These are Equicizers! (I just looked up the name) Jockeys use them to exercise or rehabilitate on. They ride them all the time on the show Jockeys (which Henry can quote backward and forward). We chose one, hopped up on it and the lady (jockey student) taught him how to really ride. Henry told her about his favorite jockeys (Mike Smith and Jon Court) and one of his favorite horses right now (Zenyatta) and she was blown away and highly amused. She said that we had to go meet Chris McCarron who we had totally missed because of the crowd. We got in his line and Henry got a personal riding lesson from Chris McCarron. Henry told him he wanted to be a jockey and again about all of his favorite jockeys and horses and he got a signed hat. Great guy and a great exhibition for the kids. He gave Henry a brochure with application for the school, but I also reminded Henry that he really liked the veterinarian exhibit too and that is a much less risky occupation...I don't think he heard me though.

Is this pure joy or what?

Henry, with great form (coming down the stretch) with Chris McCarron looking on...I think he was impressed!

Henry, with his irresistible blue eyes asking if we can do it again and again.

And like most horse outings, it all ended with a big nap on the sofa.

Fisher was happy to indulge Henry in his true passion and reminded me that he will be old enough soon to start finding his own hobbies...unfortunately he seems really interested in cars, I'll try to support him in anything he wants to do...but you will not see me at a NASCAR event anytime in the near future. ;)

Focce Fest '09

The Gibson Fishing/Fish Fry/guys golfing/bocce playing weekend got an official new name from Julie this year "Focce Fest".

And so commences Focce Fest '09...

Lots of fishing...and Uncle Jon wearing his "Official Focce Uniform".

There were sea creatures...

Who sometimes made an appearance on land as well.

And did I mention fishing....

And mugging...

And there was lots of exploring since the littlest Focce Fest participant got his sea legs this year...

...which was a big step up from last year. While dressed appropriately, he didn't really get to experience the fun that is Focce Fest.

And lots of pointing, one of Fisher's favorite hobbies...

Second only to playing in dog water...THIS is his favorite hobby, and he works on his skills diligently every chance he gets!

And just observing.

There were great dinners on the front porch.

Julie, the creative force behind the naming of the weekend, with Baby Owen, who has done a little growing himself since last year...

Happy Granddad...he loves it most when everyone is all together!

Fisher agrees...

...and is going to do a little pointing to prove it.

Henry was pulling his weight this year and helping haul in some fish.

No they aren't 'jumbo shrimp', but they are a 'fresh catch'!

Fisher picking up one of Henry's favorite things to do, playing with the croquet balls that Betsy tries so hard to keep together and my boys love to drag out all over the property. (don't they know this weekend is supposed to be about bocce, not croquet?...I guess he was trying to get something started because at this point of the weekend there had not been a game of bocce played yet!)

Pointing time again.

Daddy hauling in the big ones!

Pool time!

Swimsuits? Who needs swimsuits? We have our clothes and underwear...and even our shoes. (The Henry getting nekid pictures are being censured.)

Weekend drawing to a close for some participants. (Yes that is Julie's foot on Henry's head, she says she kept trying to move it and he kept snuggling up to it...and knowing that snuggle bug, I totally believe her!)

Finally....some bocce was played...

...and a winner was declared.

And the Champ was the proud recipient of the First Annual Focce Fest Trophy. (which I found at a yard sale across from my parents house that morning!) Ed's name was inscribed on the plastic trophy with a Sharpie...and there is plenty of room waiting for future winners!

The last day...

...and we've had a great time, but some of us are tuckered out.

The boys going up to get the Sunday paper.

Its been a great weekend, always good to have everyone together, but it is time to go home...

Although some of us just seem to getting started.

Quarter Horse Racing

For 2 nights in July every year, the Red Mile Track features Quarter Horse Racing. Have you ever seen Quarter Horses race? Wow. Serious wow. Want to see a picture?

*blink*

and the race is over!

Ok, maybe not that fast, but you get the point. Know why they are called Quarter Horses? They only race a quarter of a mile. Heeeeeeey! Pretty neat, huh?

As afore mentioned, notice the boys' attire. JULY 17th. Usually we say 2 things about the Quarter Horse races when looking back on them...1. Boy, weren't they fast? and 2. Holy Moly it was sweltering that night! Not this year!

I think Auntie Kate took most of these pictures. Think she likes her nephews much?

I think we've got another horse fan!
